This is where the description goes, a place to describe the purpose and intent of the blog. Apparently we thought the title already did that! For those still confused, this blog is where JM and MH rant about random things. We apologize for any confusion. Now, feel free to read on.

Alter Bridge
I wanted to do more than give Alter Bridge a SOTD. If you haven't heard of Alter Bridge, you're not alone. They aren't huge, but there fan base is very loyal and with the following songs you will hear why. Talk about being in my wheelhouse. Bands like Alter Bridge are why I listen to music.

SOTD - Here With Me
One of the first CD's that I purchased with my own money and one of the very first CD's I ever owned was REO Speedwagon's The Hits. I used to listen to it over and over again. I still love that CD and one of my new favorites from that CD was "Here With Me." It certainly doesn't get the recognition that many of their other songs receive, but it's still classic REO.

SOTD - Dead and Bloated
This is a great song if only for the title. Thankfully it's much more than that. I love songs that grab you with a unique opening hook and then STP ties it to a great riff. All of that makes for a great SOTD.

Twofer SOTD
A woman was at home listening to Led Zeppelin on her Squeezebox when her young son came into the room and asked, "Mommy, what is that?" She replied, "It's called talent, when I was young you had to have it to be famous."
Many dreams come true and some have silver linings
I live for my dream and a pocketful of gold
I have been to many great concerts, but getting to see Jimmy Page and Robert Plant together on one stage has to be one of the best. It wasn't a full fledge Zeppelin reunion and it was all acoustic, but it was the most electric atmosphere at a concert I've ever been a part of. It was simply brilliant.
Next up...James is more known for his songwriting, but a few years back he went behind the mic and had the year's most played song on the radio.

SOTD - Give It Away
Each SOTD comes about in a different way. I choose most of them and most of the time it's not a struggle, as soon as I hear it, I just know that that's the one. Other times I get suggestions from friends or requests. Sometimes, I have to work to try and find something I want to post as SOTD. However, there are times when a SOTD chooses itself and won't be denied.
Yesterday I had the radio on listening to music for about a total of 20 minutes on a very long drive. The other 4 hours was spent on the phone, listening to my Zune or even talk radio for a few minutes. In those 20 minutes spent listening to music on the radio, I heard this song 3 times, which wouldn't be that surprising if the song wasn't 20 years old. Then upon powering up my Zune, the fourth random song to play was...you guessed it, Give It Away for the fourth time of the day. Apparently it had heard about the great prestige that comes with being named a SOTD and just had to have it.

Woodlawn High School Falling Down
Literally!
Woodlawn High School forced to close classrooms.
That's almost as bad as the guidance counselor not having the class schedules ready at the beginning of the year, so the Freshmen class had to sit in the gym and entertain ourselves all day for the first week or so of the school year.

Do I Hear FIFTY?
As I turned 37 yesterday, I began to reminisce about some of my past birthday experiences. One that instantly popped into my mind was my 21st birthday.
21 is a special age to reach. A time when one is suppose to go out and do something EXTRAORDINARY for their birthday. My best friend Matt had bashed his cranium trying to come up with something to do that evening. Something we hadn’t done before. Something that would be unique and special. He came up with a plan…we would head out to the Casino Queen and try and become RICH!
Neither of us were gamblers and couldn’t play CARDS for a lick, unless you counted us cheating my sister and her husband out of a game called Rummy 2000…my strategy, just keep throwing crap down as fast as you can and they can’t tell if it is legit or not. Worked, Matt Hoyt and my sister never really knew we weren’t winning those hands! But, we decided to try our luck at the riverboat. Something new…something we hadn’t done before.
When we parked, Matt and I both made an agreement. Neither of us had really high paying jobs…he was a manager at McDonalds and I was a manager at Long John Silvers… and we were both still trying to pay our way through college, so we both left everything in the car except our driver’s license and fifty dollars.
One can easily be overwhelmed by all the lights and sounds of a casino. Since we were both young and inexperienced in this realm, we were. We walked around the entire casino before we set our sights on what was to be our first gambling experience. The Blackjack table. We approached.
“Yes sir,” the man in a tuxedo behind the counter said holding a stack of cards. He smiled. Seemed pleasant enough.
Matt put down a ten. “I’d like to play.”
The man looked at Matt and smiled. “Sir,” he said almost with a chuckle, “It is a MINIMUM fifty dollar buy in.”
I looked at Matt trying not to make it obvious how shocked I was. FIFTY DOLLARS! That was his whole budget. I watched as Matt reached out and pulled back his ten.
“I knew that.” He said quietly and we both walked away. Humbled, Matt and I quickly located a change machine and spent the rest of the evening playing the slot machines.
Matt and I played and played until we were both broke. Neither of us gained anything monetarily that evening. Walking out, we came down the ramp off of the boat. I looked at Matt.
“I can’t believe we both just lost fifty in there and nothing to show for it!”
Matt shook his head in agreement.
“You BOTH lost fifty!” I heard a voice from behind me. I turned around to see a man who looked as ordinary as the two of us leaning on the railing.
“Yeah.” I responded.
“Man! I lost fifty too!”
Matt smiled, “Sucks doesn’t it!”
“Yep! Fifty thousand is a lot of money!”
Matt and I looked at each other in awe. FIFTY THOUSAND? We both just shook our head and agreed.
“I hope you two have gas money to get home. Man….100 thousand. You two have worse luck than I do!” He headed off down the ramp and out into the parking lot.
I looked at Matt…he at me…and we both started laughing!
I have had sixteen birthdays come and go since then…but I can honestly say my 21st birthday will go down as the birthday I lost the most money…FIFTY!

It's called a uniform for a reason
Had to share Jason's press conference from today. Most people won't be interested in all of it or any of it, but for an excellent story about team, scroll into the 16:00 mark. You don't have to be a fan of Jason Garrett or the Dallas Cowboys to appreciate it.
I absolutely love the last 2:30 minutes. "Why do you alway wear a grey shirt and blue pants?" You know the reporter had no idea what a motivational answer he was about to get from such a simple question. Still gives me goosebumps and I've watched it 4 times now. Good coaches teach about a season, great coaches teach about life.

"Man known to lie in road is run over and killed"
This headline caught my attention. There are lots of things to be known for in life, I'm not sure being known to "lie in road" is the best for your health.
