Moving Swiftly

Life is sometimes funny in how it comes full circle. Sometimes it can happen in the largest of circumstances; and other times, it is much more subtle.  Take this for instance...

Matt and I headed down Highway 37 one evening to do God knows what. As we left the glistening lights of Mt. Vernon, Matt turned to me and uttered that famous quote I have shared with you all before.

"I gotta pee."

Now, both of us being raised in the country knew the easiest way to deal with the situation would be simply, as my Grandpa Champ use to suggest, "Find a tree." Matt located the first road, which was to our right, and pulled his truck down the gravel road. Once we were pulled far enough off of the main drag, Matt and I got out and took care of business.

Glancing up, Matt noticed the road sign, "Swift". "Pee swiftly my man!"

Once finished, we simply climbed back into the vehicle and headed back out on our merry way to continue with God knows what. That specific moment was filled away in my mind, buried deep within my subconscious drawer labeled "UNEVENTFUL", only to pop up now and then when we would pass that stretch of road we dubbed "Pee Lane".

Flash forward about 20 years later, my wife and I were headed to our friends' house, Dean and Cathy Taylor. We had been invited to their home for a small get together for the kids. Following the directions to their home, I found myself turning down a familiar stretch of road. I was heading down "Pee Lane"!

That night, I remarked to Dean on how lovely their property was. I also took the time to share with him how twenty years prior, "Swift Lane" had been labeled "Pee Lane". Funny though, he didn't think it was as amusing of a story as I did.

So folks, like I stated earlier, it's funny how life comes full circle. It can happen in the largest of circumstances and sometimes it can be much more subtle. So be careful, you never know whose future land you might be taking a leak on.

That's nice...JM
