Flag Day and Freedom


"I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

The flag of the United States of America isn't just a piece of fabric waving in the wind, but a symbol of the very fabric, steadfast in it's beliefs, that is the United States. With all of our differences (good and bad) as Americans, we can still unite around our flag to support our country and defend our beliefs. A country which still stands as Lincoln said "the last best hope of earth."

A country which was founded on the belief that certain truths were "self-evident," truths that included "that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness." Furthermore this country was established on the basis that "whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness." Are we still living in the country that our Founding Fathers envisioned?

To continue to defend what the United States stands for we must continue to rely on God for strenth, wisdom and direction. “I am sure that never was a people, who had more reason to acknowledge a Divine interposition in their affairs, than those of the United States; and I should be pained to believe that they have forgotten that agency, which was so often manifested during our Revolution, or that they failed to consider the omnipotence of that God who is alone able to protect them.” George Washington

My challenge is that on this flag day we as a nation pray for ourselves and country. "If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land." 2 Chronicles 7:14.

My generation must now step up and protect what the flag stands for and against. It is our turn to show the world what it means to be an American. It means standing for freedom at all costs. Freedom for all men and women for they are created equal, freedom from an oppressive government which may stand in the way of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness and freedom of religion, not from religion. Let's not forget how lucky we are to be able to be free to pursue our hopes and dreams.

Every generation that has come before us knew these truths and passed them on to us. Let us not be the generation that fails. I pray God that we have not lost our nerve. "May the LORD our God be with us as he was with our fathers; may he never leave us nor forsake us." 1 Kings 8:57
